WHITTEMORE - In Keene, N. H., Aug 12, John Henry Whittemore, 80 yrs. 2 mos. 12 ds., member of Edward A. Kingsley Post, G. A. R. Services at chapel, Mt. Hope Cemetery, Boston, Mass., Thursday, Aug 13, at 11 a. m. Relatives and friends invited.

A note of thanks to Ed Coyne, Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, Department of Massachusetts, Charles H. Bond Camp 104 Graves Registeration Officer for assisting in locating this burial location and providing the photograph and to John Johnson, Reference Librarian, Keene Public Library for providing The Keene Sentinel obituary. I discovered The Boston Globe obituary and during my visit to the cemetery I could not locate Whittemore's gravestone. I asked Ed Coyne about it and he worked with the cemetery office to verify the location and provided me with some detailed maps. I ordered the headstone on December 6, 2006 and Ed was there when the headstone was installed on May 26, 2007. While setting the new gravestone the cemetery crew discovered his son's (Samuel H. Whittemore) ground marker about 8 inches below the surface and it is now in its proper position and location.
